The objective of this proposed program is to obtain, through lost and observation, sufficient data to permit appraisal of perform- ance, suitability, and reliability of the IRS system. A secondary objective is the generation of cenclusians and recommendations derived from test results which say improve the usefulness of the equipment. The technical details on4 further discussion are caa- tained in the enclosed *Technical Description." It is estimated that this program, including a final report to be furnished in nine (9) months, and a life-test supplement in six (6) months, can be completed in fifteen ' (ls) iionths from date of con- tract acceptance. IS STALDATIQJ The objective of this proposed progras is to obtain, through test and observation, sufficient data to perait appraisal of perforranee, suitability, and reliability of the LU syosam. A se-caadsry objective is the generation of conclusi ens and recoa msadati ns derived from, test results Which may Improve the usefulness of the equi, psust. A previous progro was started sad proceeded long enough to uncover a basic equipment weakness. The squipment was withdrawn fray tort by the customer and sent to the sum 'ac rer for seedification. The present program is designed to evaluate the modified aquipeant along the general lines proposed for the original egaipasat. Certain sadifiattions in the test procedure are included where azparienca with the equipment has indi.. cated the feasibility or desirability of certain tssts. Other tests were found to be Impractical of meaningless and have been excluded. A final report will be issued at the end of the regular test program. and a sapplaeent will be issued at the conclusion of the life-Us" pro.- t? Discussions The program outlined in this proposal will be 41 tdeed into three general categoriest laboratory tests, field tester, and life tests. The laboratory tame include all tests and of equippneast oharac.. teristics which can be camper" directly with oia ls r rsasuts an Silber apparatus. Labors" tests will be amide under controlled coalitions atisg techniques SM instrasraenlatien which say be duplicated at say tine. Labors" least results provide the faaeabee entai data upon which an evaluam ties can be Bade. Yield tests are composed of tYeSesreraeats made u de r siaulated field conditions to provide sons indication of 0111pectsd pastern. sees in actual use. In geatearal, field test results are not duplicable and e aeanat provide a sound basis for objective evaluation. Yield tests w d results, when specified and Interpreted by tiue .it, can provide valuable information relating to improved application. Life test results provide indications of enpeeeted life and deterioration with ego. Since it is not possible to test a statistically adequate tooling of egnipaasarts and saviron.. meets In the propran, toot results comaot be considered conclusive. Through. out the entire toast period, the equipment and lass +tion material Will, be subject to Critical observation and subjective appraisal. Such observations will cover the areas of operation, i ssallattion, lain manse, general han& ling precautionss, and improved design.
