Enclosure : (A) Financial Data
Work performed during the period 1 July through 31 August 1957 consisted of
fabrication of the small sized (card) slides. These were to be fabricated by
the photographic method. -
Future work planned is to fabricate the standard sized slides and containers
by the photographic method in accordance with the results set forth in the
discussion below.
Problems Encountered:
It has been agreed to revise the overlay concept to have five (5) adjustment
slots based on a 1/8 inch spacing per slot rather than the three- (3) 3/16th
slots of the prototype model. Approximately one hundred (100) additional
overlays will be included , covering blond hair types and additional Oriental
and Negroid types.
The contractor has been currently conducting studies on the utilization of a
printing process for the fabrication of the large sizedfoils. The analysis of
the process has shown. that direct printing on acetate foil provides an adequate
line reproduction; howe'gr, ,..print lines are subject to wear and tear in
usage. Therefore, additional study.,tas made in preparing laminate foils or
overlays for these slides. The basic slide thickness is .005 with each overlay
.0015. Pressing the overlays on both sides of the foil results in a total foil
thickness of . 007. These were quires adequate. Inspector has stated

that he does not believe the laminated model will be adequate for the
environmental conditions encountered by the user, and therefore, it is his
opinion that we should return to the printed method without overlay. On
the other hand, this has already been rejected b
due to the lack of the print face .
The results of the meeting held at the contractor' s plant durin August
brought out the fact that the user would rely upon Inspector in
determining the requirements for this unit and since Inspecto
does not wish to use the overlay printed foil, we, the contractor, are
forced to return to the photographic method of foil production, even though
it is slower and much more expensive.
We trust that the above meets with your approval and invite comment thereto.
Sincerely,
