MCMORA.NDUM FOR: Chief, Technical Services Staff
SUBJBCT : Request for Tnnwaaa&A RAnTift nnAar Tank TT of Contract
1. Description of the Project
This project will be a development effort leading to the fabrication
of a lightweight aerial dispatching system compatible for a C-54 type
aircraft equipped with inward opening cargo doors.
2. Purpose of the Project
The initiation of this project was requested by C/PP Staff for the
program. In an effort to sStisfy the requirements of aerial dis-
patching approximately 12,000 pounds of cargo over denied areas, in a
matter of seconds, a "breadboard" prototype conveyor system has been
designed, fabricated, sad tested. Actual flight trials using the "bread-
board" prototype conveyor system resulted in dispatching 7000 pounds
of cargo over a period of seven seconds. A maximum payload of 10,000
pounds, due to "bundle" configuration, could be dispatched from a C-54
type aircraft in ten seconds using this conveyor system and the inward
opening cargo door. Based upon the successful demonstration of the
"breadboard" prototype conveyor system a final, lightweight, prototype is
to be fabricated and flight tested. The final prototype should meet all
the requirements of a lightweight rapid delivery aerial dispatching con-
veyor.
The "breadboard" prototype is currently being retained for operational
use with the inward opening cargo door (C-54) Agency aircraft.
3. Recommended Contractor,

ased upon technical background
and fabrication facilities it is felt that this firm is well qualified for
the project.
4. Total Cost
