Description of the Project This project will be a development effort leading to the fabrication of an aerial dispatching system compatible for a C-54+ type aircraft equipped with inward opening cargo doors. 2. Purpose of the Project Initiation of this project was requested by C/PP Staff for the program. In an effort to satisfy the requirements of air dropping approximately 12,000 pounds of cargo over denied areas, in a matter of seconds, utilizing a minimum of personnel, a prototype conveyor system was designed, fabricated, and tested. The results obtained through testing the initial prototype conveyor indicated that certain modifications are necessary in order to more firmly establish the design criteria due to increased requirements of package size and weight over that initially requested. The remodified system is intended for static testing only using dummy loaded "bundles". Based upon the performance characteristics obtained, a final prototype will be fabricated and dynamically tested. It is hoped that the final prototype will meet all the requirements of a lightweight rapid delivery aerial dispatching conveyor. At present a parallel program for modifying the air cargo doors of the C-54 type aircraft is in progress. The aerial dispatching system is to be used in conjunction with these doors. The presently used dispatching systems are limited to a 37" door opening. The completion of both the door and conveyor programs will allow for the utilization of a 55" door opening. Larger and heavier "buudles" may be accomodated and more rapid dispatching achieved. 3. Recommended Contractor The recommended contractor for this program is Based upon technical background and fabrication facilities it is felt that this f%=-. s well qualified for the project.
