Subject: Contract ED-155 - Task Order No. 1
During the installation of the aircraft doors which
were modified by this company under the subject Task Order, the
Project Officer requested that a parts list be furnished. This
company, however, did not have drawings showing the components
of the C-54 door which was furnished to it for modification, and
the parts added to the door during the modification were not
identified by part number. Consequently, it was agreed that a set
of drawings from which identification of the component parts could
be made would be a satisfactory substitute for the parts list.
A set of drawings covering the original forward and aft doors sup-
plied by this company and the modifications made to the C-54 aft
door were delivered to the Project officer on May 28, 1959.
Because of the short time span between the request
and delivery of the drawings, it was not possible to incorporate
modifications made during installation of the doors on the air-
craft. To bring the drawing information up to date, we are
furnishing as enclosure (A), the following drawing change notices:

The above listed change notices should be attached to the respective
drawings to which they apply.
During the operation of the forward door after its instal-
lation, it was discovered that the taper pins in the torque shaft
could be sheared if the door was allowed to drop into the closed posi-
tion. To eliminate this condition, the bumpers were removed from the
upper support arms. However, this expedient shifted the load to the
lower roller and may cause the roller shaft to shear if the door is
allowed to drop. To correct this condition a bumper installation for
the bottom edge of the forward door has been designed. Drawing No.
3006-010013, showing the bumper installation and a set of bumper parts,
are furnished with this letter. It is believed that installation of
these parts in accordance with the drawings will prevent the lower
forward roller from bottoming in the lower end of the track and prevent
shearing of the roller shaft.
