SUBJECT : Request for Additional Work under Task C of
Contract RD-26 with
(ED-133G, Balloon, Portable Hydrogen Generator
1. Description of the Program
This program is directed toward the development of a lightweight-
portable hydrogen generator. A laboratory research program designed
to study the feasibility of developing such an item has just been
concluded with the evidence indicating that such a generator should
in fact be possible.
2. Purpose of the Project
The purpose of this project would be to attempt to translate the
theoretical capability which has been demonstrated during the conduct
of the laboratory research phase of the program into an operational
capability by building and testing a full scale generator. If success-
ful, such a generator would permit an agent to inflate a personnel
balloon and exfiltrate himself from a denied area. This requirement
is one of long standing.
3. Recommended Contractor
The recommended contractor for this d ve pment is 0 25X1
has done an excellent 25X1
job of reviewing the problem on a laboratory basis and has come up
with a very promising chemical reaction and generator design.
4. Support Requirements
There are no support requirements with other government agencies.
Total Cost
The total cost for this second phase of the program is estimated
at $18,285.00 for an eight month period. Charges are to be made
against Allotment Number 7-2502-10.

Contract RD-26 is an A;ency sterile contract. Task C is also
Agency sterile; however Government interest may be shown. The item,
except in its full scale testing phase, will be unclassified. Agency
interest in all work and material under the contract is classified
Secret and may be divulged only on a need-to-know basis to appropriate
security approved personnel.
