Request for Initiation of Test and Evaluation of
Hydrogen Generator
1. Description of the Project
Redesign, modification and roof testing of the TSS Hydrogen Gen-
erator developed by Thia work was necessitated by 25X1
failure of a basic generator retort section in the test and evaluation
work described in the referenced memorandum. A section of the retort
will be tested to obtain temperature time data involved in the heating
and cooling of this piece during intermittent operation of the generator.
From this data a stress analysis of this part will be made and a new
piece designed. The generator retorts will then be modified and proof
tested.
2. Purpose of the Project
The purpose of this project is to eliminate the one problem area re-
maining in the operation of the generator and to insure its satisfactory
performance to meet an area division need. Two area divisions are con-
cerned: SR and EE and they are currentl in need of a supply of lifting
gas for propaganda balloon purposes Should the subject 25X1
generator performance prove reliable it would satisfy all the lifting
gas requirements of these two area divisions in this area.
3. Recommended Contractor
The recommended contractor for this work will be the Industrial Gas
Branch of the Mechanical Division, ERDL, Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Assis-

The total cost of this work at ERDL is estimated at $18,000.00.
will incur some costs also in support of this program, and these 25X1
funds will be requested separately.
