Following assembly of the last lot of
a
ve.2y detailed check was conducted at the request of the Project Officer
on the final assemblies. At the same time, revised instruction sheets
were prepared and packed with the completed units.
Work was also continued on the
Several
experiments were run using different sound absorbing materials in an
attempt to further improve the soundproofing qualities of the heavier
box, none of which proved to be of any advantage. A demonstration of
this heavier type box was made for the Project Officer during his visit
early in the month. As a result, it was decided that the outer corners
of the lid be welded closed and the lid then be regasketed. This pro-
duced a 4 - 5 decibel reduction in the sound attenuation from the box.
In an attempt to further reduce the sound transmisdon, two spring latches
were attached to the body so that the lid could be pulled down tight.
Unfortunately, this only dropped the sound transmission by a further
one decibel.
One minor daange was made inside the box, which will improve ease
of operation of the item. A miniature male/female socket has been installed
on the wires between the solenoid and the terminal box, replacing the
need for a terminal block and its spring type connectors. All of the
above improvements, except for the latch arrangement, will be incorporated
in the twenty five boxes, for the
