Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/05/31 : CIA-RDP78-03642AO01700010058-9 CONFIDENTIAL April 14, 1961 This letter report summarizes the research performed under Task Order No. RR during February, 1961. By the end of January, the combustion-chamber section for the Model 2 incinerator had been constructed, and fabrication of the two lower sections had been carried as far as possible without the blowers and motors being available. No further fabrication was done in February; delivery of the first blower with a 3-phase, 208,220/41+0-volt, 50/60-cycle motor was delayed and this motor-blower assembly was not received until February 28. The second blower, with a single-phase, 110/220-volt, 50/60-cycle motor is expected by March 10-15. During our meeting with you on February 27, all aspects of nominal 110/220-volt, 50/60-cycle operation of motors for both this Model 2 incinera- tor and the previously developed Model 1 incinerator were discussed. Prior to the meeting, one of your requirements was to provide switchgear which would permit an immediate changeover from 50-cycle to 60-cycle power, or from 60-cycle to 50-cycle power. This would be done by using a manual-type starter which was not provided with undervoltage protection. At the meeting, you indicated that this requirement for the provision for immediate changeover had been eliminated; and that the only requirement in this regard at present was that the electrical equipment be suitable for installation on either 50- cycle or 60-cycle power service and for operation at the particular frequency DOC R EVV DATE BY ~~ - ORIG COMP 403:4 OPI TYPE -~- ORIG CLASS f PAGES REV CLASS JUST VL*Z NEXT REV 21QA AUTH: HR 11.2 Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/05/31 : CIA-RDP78-03642AO01700010058-9 Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/05/31 : CIA-RDP78-03642A001700010058-9 -2- April 11+, 1961 after installation. This specification will permit the use of a better motor starter, i.e., one having both undervoltage and overload protection for the motors. Future effort will include (1) final layout of the blower and air- damper parts, (2) assembly of the two lower sections, and (3) experimental operation of each of the two complete lower sections assembled to the combustion-chamber section. The total appropriation on this Task Order was $29,61+8. As of March 1, 1961, all of the funds were expended, and an extension proposal dated February 11+, 1961, had been submitted.
