On 9 May 58 and the undersigned visited to discuss the Bquipent Safeguard Unit and 1o der explosive. 2. Five tests were run to determine the effectiveness of the explosive insert made for the 9 inch long film spool. The end cap which detonated the explosive was located with a 1/8 inch air glop between it and the end of the explosive. All five tests were successful and the film was shattered into pieces no larger than one inch square. Occasionally, strips of film l/4 inch wide and 5 inches long would fuse together, however it was felt that no intellieence could be removed from these fragments. We will receive inserts for our testing and use. had received two spools from which had a larger ID than the original ones. Upon checking with the undersigned learned that he had intended to substitute the larger ID spool in the W-equipment developer. Be was reminded of the decision not to real sizes agreed upon at a meeting which he attended on 6 Feb With this, he again d to use the original spool in the take-up side of the equipment. also mentioned that 2 mock-ups of the equipment were being together and would soon be shipped to us. 2. Five Hquipsent Safeguard Units were tested for functioning by manually operating than and checking delay time and ignition of primaa6 cord from the two boosters. All five tests were successful and delay times ranged from 35 to 38 seconds. Twenty five units will be assembled as fast as they can be made and started in the environmental testing program. This program is the same asthe one outlined in the original proposal except the shock test is being twitted on the grounds that it does not add any useful information. The following tests will be made at Temperature Transportation Vibration Salt Spray Water Immersion (12" for 24 hours) Acceleration (5 g's) Vibration (for jet aircraft) Altitude (3 cycles to 40,000 feet) 6 4? , r1 HK 144 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 25X1 Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/05/31 : CIA-RDP78-03642A001700020035-3 Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/05/31 : CIA-RDP78-03642A001700020035-3 3.
