SUBJECT . Testing at Fort Belvoir
1. In April 1956, additional testing was conducted at the Demolition
Test area, Mine Warfare Branch, Ft. Be?uoir, under project FB-79. The
purpose of this testing was to examine the sealing properties of the adapter
booster, coupling base, and 24-Hour Clockwork combination.
2. Description of the-:-tests -
Ten firing systems comprised of a 24 Hour Clockwork without
firing pin, coupling base, adapter booster, and M-34 detonator were placed
in a pressure vessel under water at 90 psi for 24 hours. In addition,
ten coupling base, adapter booster, M-34 combinations were subjected to
the same conditions.
3. Results -
The coupling bases were then tested for functioning. Six bases
fired low order, and the remaining] failed to fire.
Detonator, adapter booster assemblies were tested for functioning
by using dry coupling bases. Results follow:
