The attached tables reflect some of the activities of certain components of the Office of Security during October 1965. 2. The statistics in the tables are compiled by the component concerned and refer to the current month. 3. The following statistics are furnished for the purpose of comparison between this month and previous months: September 1965 October 1965 October 1964 Overt & Semi-Covert Cases Received 1755 1995 Covert Cases Received 1759 1916 2292 Total Days Processing Time (applicant-type) 80 75 Man-Hours Expended (Covert Support) 3918 4712 9407 The number of T/O Staff Applicant Cases received increased from 379 for the month of September to 464 for October. The investigative time for applicant cases decreased from 67 days forSeptemberto 60 days for October. The Acting Director of Security and the Chief, Security Policy and Executive Staff, briefed the DDCI on a controversy between CIA and the Department of State arising from a question of security classification of a document prepared by State and bearing on a matter of interest to CIA in the special security control procedures. b. The Acting Director of Security attended the meeting of the Technical Security Countermeasures Committee as the alternate CIA representative. The primary matter discussed was the revision of the TSCC paper establishing uniform pro- cedures concerning 25X1A13C 25X1 C8A e, Security support was rendered to the DCI relative to his attendance at the funeral of his brother-in-law at Wyckoff, New Jersey. Similar support had been given previously in connection with the burial of his niece at Wyckoff. f. An OS representative began a review of the DDI directorate in accordance with the recommendations approved by the Executive Director-Comptroller on annual surveys of codeword facilities and handling procedures. A proposed DCID establishing uniform personnel security standards and practices for access to community compartmented intelligence information will be discussed at the next meeting of the Security Committee in November. The proposal was prepared by a working group of the Security Committee chaired by DIA. k. Realities briefings were afforded to the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Communications, Department of State, in connec- tion with his forthcoming trip to various Iron Curtain countries and to Mr. Gordon Gray, a member of the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board, for a trip to Czechoslovakia and Poland. Congressman and Mrs. Howard H. Calloway were also given briefings for their trip to the Soviet Union. Meetings were held with personnel involved in the forth- coming move to the Magazine Building which is tentatively targeted to begin 1 December 1965. As presently envisioned, the move will begin with occupants of 1016 - 16th Street, N. W. , followed by occupants from the Headquarters Building and Quarters I. q. Two OS officials attended the annual National Seminar of the American Society for Industrial Security held in Atlanta, Georgia, 12-14 October 1965.
