Subject, Area, and Principal Users - This program is controlled and
directed by Graphics Register an complements the other Agency and
Community collection activities. It is particularly productive for
providing economic and sociological reporting on newly emerging areas.
Geographic and mapping interests are also served by this program.
Valuable photography has been sent in during the past year by several
posts in Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Africa. Principal users
are ORR, NPIC,F-1 OCI, OSI, and NIS contributors, and DIA/AMS.

6. PERSONALITIES DESK
Statistics are kept by the number of personalities received rather than by
the number of photographs. This is done to insure a more accurate reflection
of workload since thie photograph of each individual must be processed as a
single accession. Emphasis is placed on the USSR, Satellites, and key
personalities in free world areas. All Foreign'Service Posts have a respon-
sibility for biographic reporting and for submitting photographs of key
personalities. Personality collection guidance and specific requests are
sent to the field-through the respective area desks of Graphics Register.
Personality requ.Lrements are incorporated into other subject and area guide-
lines.
The Personality Unit supplies photography for most publications concerning
biographics published in the intel.igence Community including the NIS and
Briefing Books for'the White House, Department of State, and the Department
of Defense. Support is also provided for briefing departmental officials
who will be meetin, -leaders of other governments in this country or abroad.
Military Attaches familiarize themselves with the personality files on their
particular country Before taking an assignment. The Clandestine Services
are supported by identification. of personalities; many photographs are
processed for DD/P operations.
