MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Logistics
SUBJECT : Temporary Interruption of Chilled Water and Condensing
Water Supply, Headquarters
1. Per your request this memo contains information concerning the May 7th
chilled water outage.
2. Three major contractors now working at the Headquarters complex have
need to connect their new chilled water and condensing water lines to our similar
existing lines. It is planned to make these connections in one period from Q.
Friday, 7 May, to 1800 Sunday, 9 May, The three contractors and the jobs they are
working on are: the Jordan Construction Company which is extending our power plant
and installing new chillers; the Tower Performance Company which is building the
fifth cell on our cooling tower; and the Kerr Construction Company which is installing
a clean-room in Room GH-37.
3. The Jordan Construction Company is required to install sixteen 12" and 14"
valves in the power plant. Eight of the valves are for chilled water lines and eight
are for condensing water lines. To install them it is necessary to shut down the
chillers, hence no chilled water will be available. However, the buildin ~s main air
fans will continue to ventilate the building. Scaffolding will have been erected several
days before and drain-down of our lines will be commenced at 1600 on Friday, 7 May,
so that the full period will be available to the contractor. He will be working three
shits.:
4. The Tower Performance Company is required to install three 14" valves and
extend the pipes from the underground headers of the cooling tower. The same drain-
down as for the power plant will enable Tower Performance to do their work. They
plan to start at 0730 Saturday, 8 May.
5. The Kerr Construction Company is required to tap into the main chilled water
header in the North Basement and install two 2-1/2" valves. They plan to start at 0730
on Sunday, 9 May. Drain-down will be commenced at 0400 Sunday, 9 May.

6. The Signal Center and the computer centers will not be inconvenienced as
they will receive chilled water from their own systems.
