Approved For Rese 2002/05t,CIARPP78-04722A000200020047-3 DD/S 71-1321 13 APR 1971 MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Communications Director of Finance Director of Logistics Director of Medical Services Director of Personnel Director of Security Director of Training SUBJECT : Wives and Families of Agency Assignees to Vietnam 1. Two senior Support Directorate officers reported on their return from TDY in Saigon that a number of Vietnam Station officers reflected unhappiness and disappointment at the total lack of interest in families of Vietnam assignees on the part of their Agency State- side colleagues. They indicated that once the sponsor departed friends and associates seemed to drop the Vietnam families regardless of the closeness of relationships earlier on. 2. I would appreciate your raising this matter appropriately within your offices with a view to encouraging periodic contact to demonstrate at least in a small way an interest in the separated families on a personal basis as well as to indicate some appreciation on the part of the Agency and the assigning component of the sacrifices which separated Vietnam assignments entail.
