MEMORANDUM FOR: Deputy Director/OPPB
SUBJECT Contract
1. Attached is a contract proposal prepared by the
office of Communications for the development of an auto-
mated test system. This system employs a desk-size
computer. The two systems being requested will be used
to test a series of "cooler/keyors" currently being delivered.
2. The availability of these systems will result in
appreciable man hour savings along with a potential dollar
savings. The Office of Communications has investigated
alternatives to this proposal, chief among them the possi-
bility of using existing computer equipment for this work.
This equipment is located II Communications people
estimate that the software development costs involved in
making use of this on-site equipment are about equivalent
to the savings expected from acquiring these two systems.
They also point out that proposal will provide
a relatively simple method for changing program parameters
and then being able to test other equipment. A software
package for on-site equipment would be less flexible.
