Dear General Cushman:
The General Services Administration (GSA) is planning to
acquire six high disk'pacXs (IBM Type 1316) for FY 1971 by
competitive procurement. Interim Specification W-D-001489,
dated December 1, 1969, has been.issued and establishes the
basis for a qualified products listing of manufacturers.
There are eight companies currently offering disk packs
under Federal Supply Schedule contracts which are due to
expire,on June 30, 1970. This centralized. procurement will
be the mandatory source :or supply for this type of disk
pack. The specification calls for packs which are certified
with all error tracks flagged but which are not formatted for
the various computer operating system. requirements.
To determine the Government's overall requirement for.FY 1971,
it will be necessary for each agency to report their projected
needs'to GSA. Accordingly, your entries on the attached form
will be considered as your firm requirement. Your report
should include not only those disk packs to be replaced which
are currently leased, but, also any additional requirements
which you anticipate. Your needs should be indicated on a
monthly basis beginning with July 1970.
In addition, we are asking that you report your FY 1971 re-
quirements for eleven high disk packs (IBM Type 2316). This
information will assist us to finalize an Interim Specification
and complete plans for centralized acquisition of that item.
Reports should be forwarded to Mr.. James C. Lindsey, Chief,
Procurement Assistance Branch Number 5 (FT.PH), ADP Procurement
Division, Federal Supply Service, General Services Administra-
tion, Washington, D.C. 20406, so as to arrive no later than
Ma 15 1970. Further questions regarding this project should
e directed to Mr. Lindsey by calling Ar-e-a-Code--7O3--5-57--850'0.
