MEMORANDUM FOR:
FROM : Registrar, Office of Training
SUBJECT : Project HELPFUL: Orientation on the Defense
Intelligence Agency - 15 and 16 November 1966
1. Project HELPFUL, the Defense Intelligence Agency's orientation
on its activities for representatives from CIA and from the Joint Chiefs of
Staff, will be conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday, 15 and 16 November.
DIA has invited the Agency to send thirty-five representatives. The quota
for the Support Services is four and the nominating memorandum must be
in the Registrar's office by Friday, 28 October.
2. Project HELPFUL is intended for officers in grade GS- 13 or
higher whose Agency assignments require knowledge of the organization
and function of DIA and its relationship with other agencies in Government.
It includes lectures and tours which explain and demonstrate the responsi-
bilities and functions of DIA, including the methods it uses in acquiring and
processing military intelligence and its work in science and technology.
The lectures are given primarily at the Defense Intelligence School; visits
are made to DIA's Production, Computer, and Defense Indications Centers.
Since DIA has recently been reorganized, it would not be inappropriate to
nominate officers who attended one of the previous orientation programs.
3. A memorandum listing four principal nominees and two alternates,
and indicating for each individual his grade and a general position title
appropriate for external dissemination, must be forwarded to the Registrar's
office no later than Friday, 28 October. Please address it to the Registrar,
Attention: Chief, Admissions and Information Branch, Room 832, 1000 N.
Glebe.
4. As soon as the official nomination list is compiled, information
on the schedule, transportation (we plan to provide bus service to and from
the Headquarters Building), and other administrative matters will be sent
directly to each nominee. If you have further inquiries, direct them to me,
extension 2193, or to extension 2896.
