SUBJECT : Human Interaction and Assessment Laboratory
1. In October 1971 our Behavioral Activities Branch spon-
sored the first Human Interaction and Assessment Laboratory.
25X1A You may recall that briefed you on the course last
April, indicating that it was designed, through group interaction,
to enhance the case officer's operational skills by teaching him
more effective ways of communicating and increasing his under-
standing of the forces which influence human behavior, including
his own. At the time, you indicated your approval of the activity,
suggesting we run a number of these laboratories each year. To
date, we have held six courses for approximately sixty students.
Another course is scheduled for the week of 11 February for eleven
students.
2. The course itself has been overwhelmingly praised by the
students and representative samples of critiques are attached for
your information. There is some question, however, among more
senior levels within the DDO as to its value. The cost of the
moderator for the program is less than $18, 000 per year which
breaks down to approximately $300 per student. In order to firm
up our planning for the continuation of this course, the Deputy
Director for Operations has suggested we seek an expression from
the DCI to determine if this is an appropriate activity in which the
