The NIS Program is steadily fulfilling the f estal Mission set forth for it by the National Security Council in latellig nce Directive No. 3 of 13 January 194$. During almost nine years of operation a total of 3,54? NIS sections has boon produced, representing more then 65% of total world aewsrage, principally an areas of high priority established by the JCS. NIS coverage of the Shoo-Soviet bloc countries is essentially complete and under active ate csi and similar coverage should be realised by next year for nearly all areas is Western Europe, the Near Last, and the Far East. The" are significant contributions to the National Intelligence effort and attest to the consistently strong, co- oordionted support of some 40 government activities which contribute to the NIL 2. Related to the NIS Program are the foreign geographic name gaaeetteears which are finding extensive use throughout the Government.
