MEMORANDUM FOR: The Director of Naval Intelligence
SUBJECT: NIS Committee Appreciation of CINCNELM Report,
Serial 0250 of 12 March 1959
REFERENCE: Comments on Subject Report by the Chairman, INS
Committee, dated 15 April 1959
1. The NIS Committee has reviewed subject report and considers
it an outstandingly meaningful commentary on the use and adequacy of the
National Intelligence Survey.
2. Subject report has been made the basis of a thorough examination
by the member agencies through their NIS Committee representatives to
determine ways and means for improving the usefulness and adequacy of
the HIS, particularly with respect to the Maintenance program. Reference
memorandum sets forth the nature of this problem involving approximating
4000 published NIS sections.
3. The NIS Committee fully realizes the thought and effort which
has gone into subject report, and wishes to convey its appreciation to
CINCNELM and to the participating Commands and Staffs for their highly
valuable assistance to the NIS Committee in the discharge of its
responsibilities.
