1. Since completion of Section 22 and Supplement U for subject
areas. with beach locations plotted upon the WAC series Maps. a now
h improved ONC map series has becon.,ee available. The ONC
,series (1:1, 000. 000) corresponds to an indi enous 1:2. '500, 000 relief
series. dated 195$, that Is evaluated by A and CIA as the best
covers o available for northern U. S. S. R.
2. Differences between the WAC maid ;rNC series are in spot
elevations, shapes of islands, spits, 1a+s, baysa deltas, and entire
reaches of coast. Draina s patterns differ considerably between the
two series. and sona areas adjacent to selected beaches shown as
swamp on the 'AC sheets appear as hills of several hundred fast
elevation an the ONC.
3. Accordingly, in my opinion. substitution of the improved
rn,ap series for the older series is Mgbly desirable, even if the
carto;,raphic effort and the work needed for adjustments to related
text and tables result in delays in other scheduled deliveries.
