2. The Committee approved the following recommendations of Navy regarding
the Special NIS (Marine Climate and Oceanography):
a. That these NIS be designated as follows:

104 Atlantic Ocean Basin
105 Pacific Ocean Basin
106 Indian Ocean Basin
107 Am-tic Ocean Basin
108 Antarctic Ocean Basin
b. That the subdivisions of these areas be left to the
discretion of the producer.
c. That responsibility for production and coordination of
these NIS be allocateNd to Navy.
d. That NIS Area Number 69 (North Polar Area) be designated
as a reserve area number. Since the NIS on the - North Polar Area
will necessarily consist mostly, if not entir9elys of marine
climate and oceanography, NIS 107 (Arctic Ocean Basin) should
provide adequate treatment. If, at some future time, it is
desired to produce a study on other aspects of the Arctic, NIB

Area Number 69 will be available for such a studyn
3. Navy is to prepare and forward to the committee members at the
earliest practicable date copies of the production schedule for Special NIS
and of the Standard Instructions for the Special HIS.
4. Copies of revised drafts of Standard Instructions for Subsection 620
(Petroleum) and Supplement V (Petroleum were r$u to the members, who
are to clear them with their agency members of the NIS Petroleum Subcommittee
and report approval or comment to the Acting Chai.rzn as soon as practicable.
5. State and Ar ,r members submitted lists of non--IAC Agencies which may
have valid requirements for HIS material. Navy and Air Force members had no
special sug
