The Chairman noted considerable improvement in recent attache
reports. Not only were field offices following up on gaps and deficiencies
in "Comments on Principal Sources", but they were also check published

A resume of discussions regarding the development of the NIS on
between the Assistant Director, ORE,
was teed to each member for examination with a view to further
dis bh at the next meeting of the NIS Committee. The Chairman noted
that sets forth reasons for not starting production of certain NIS
elements and he requested the members to ob eir agencies' position
on these points by the next meeting. As a the NIS Committee should
be able to provide considerable guidance to in the further development
of NIS 66.
4, NIS 200
Relative to realignment of the NIS production schedules for the
SE Asian Areas discussed at the last meting, the Army member reported that
the Engineers have confirmed the substitution of Sections 20, 21, and 21 on
NIS Area 100 (Indonesia) for the same sections on NIS 55 (Ethiopia). The

`dates of submission remain the same In respect to further requirements
on these areas, the Navy member reported that CINCPAC had sufficient basic
intelligences to deal with any critical situation which might develop and
consequently did not attach as high a priority to further requirements as
did CINCFE.
5, Chapter II Production on NIS 45

The Chairman inquired about the status of Chapter II production
on since the Chapter II contributions from the Far East

replied the t:ngineers were working on the final drafts. He said they had
been omitted from the production schedule because of the uncertainty of
capabilities Bch could be assigned to this work?
6. Production Forecast
The Chairman rev3d the production forecast for FY 1956, 1957,
and 1958, noting that the Committee was to examine this forecast not in
terms of capabilities, but as a basis for narrowing roends wi to mew a number areas
currently being worked on and tying up loose

further discussion of the forecast,

The Vice Chairman requested that be riven to the treatment
of Chapters I for segmented areas, such as t t MIS 39 (Chin-),
NIS )A (Korea),, and MIS 43 (Indochina).
The Vices Chairman reported that the 3.955 Production Schedule has
been firmed and the revised schedule shouting s,3.1 changes will be available
shortly,
7. Cues in FY 15 Production
The Committee approved a proposal by the ArW me "r for dropping
from the FY 1955 schedule three maintenance sections (Section 35M of NIS 32,
Section 35M of NIS 33, and Section 313[ of HIS 53) and Section 35 and Supplement
I of NIS 100. This proposal does not lower production below the r quirement
of eight equivalent MIS per year as set by the JCS.
8. The next mating of the NIS Committee is scheduled for 1000 hours
on Tuesday, 23 November 1954. 25X1A9a
