Approved For Release 2009/02/04: CIA-RDP78-05787A000300030061-6 Office Memorandum ? UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT TO : Chief, Intelligence School FROM : Chief, Intelligence Faculty svsJECT: Weekly Activities Report 33 7 August - 13 August I. SIGNIFICANT ITEMS Nothing to report. DATE: 13 August 1957 II. OTHER ACTIVITIES A. 0 has completed a chart which presents the analysis of the objectives of the Intelligence Research 25X1 Techniques course now under development. This analysis will assist us in developing objective evaluative instruments for the course. 25X1 B. Last week retested the students from the second experimental, 4- week., 2- ours-per-day course. The E] students who were retested from the 2"shorter duration courses showed good retention of their skill gains. The average gains made between pretesting before training and retesting after the end of training, for 1-hoar-per-day course and for students who took the 4-week, 2-hours-per day course were: Gain from Pretest to Retest 7 Week'Course Week Course (1 hr. per day) (2::hrs. per da ) Test RaSccore* Rate* Score* Scan for main ideas 106 1 206 10 Informational reading / 69 ,L 8 ..,.53 1 .7 14 22 Study _-- *Rate is in words per minute, and score is percentage of questions answered correctly. Since these results show that the 4-week, 2-hours-per-day course is effective, and the students' critiques indicated they prefer that schedule to the 7-week, 1-hour-per-day schedule,'we will continue to schedule the course for 4 weeks, 2 hours per day. However, we"will continue to study the results for larger numbers of students. C n?"^--~ - CV" L;L:"IJ.~. The training officer for OO/FBID requested the 25X1 Registrar OTR, to arrange for a special Reading Techniques class for FBID staff members, to be scheduled after Labor Day., and to meet after 2 p.m. each day. We suggested that FBID register the people for the course scheduled to begin 23 September, so that they will constitute the entire afternoon section of the regular 23 September class. This means that only vacancies re- main in the 23 September class for other DD/I DDS and DD/P components, since we cannot train more than people in one class. D. has been informed that 26 August is the target date for moving the Reading Lab to Quarters Eye. 25X1 E. The typing and reproduction of the readability study were completed last week. The typing was accomplished by the cooperation of several secretaries in the Intelligence School. III. PERSONNEL NOTES 25X1 A. is on leave until Thursday, 22 August. 25X1 B. on military leave with the Air Attache Branch, Directorate of Intelligence, is drafting a "package" map reading course to be introduced in the briefing of Air Force personnel prior to overseas assignment. 25X1 Approved For Release 2009/02/04: CIA-RDP78-05787A000300030061-6
