Synopsis: The special counterintelligence course for students attending the Investigations School (SIS) of the Office of Special Investigations (0SI), United States Air Force, ended on Thursday, 14 January. This course was prepared at the request of General Cabell, who had earlier agreed with General John Breit to help OSI increase its com e course as guest speakers. f PP Staff served as one of our guest panelists on countersabotag To en y students successfully completed the course. 2. Student Performance: The students participated actively in class discussionasn d showed y their questions and by their resolution of assigned problems an excellent grasp of operational principles. Each student performed well on a name check problem, and twelve students who presented assigned case analyses orally did an excellent job. 3. Course Critique: Although no written critiques were prepared by the class, "?r comments by students and SIS faculty personnel showed their appreciation of the instructiono a. Lectures: The great ma orit of our guest xnaakgrix ns%rQrmAA very we . was singled en organization., scope and content. I agree with their high opinion of John's presents.. tion. It was the best I have heard in three y ears of training work in counterintelligence, were also very effec- tive in their lecture ru, men management. However, in the opinion of many students, talk on agent spotting and selection lacked organization, oug showed an understanding and grasp of the subject, b. Name Check Problem: Students and faculty expressed great satis- faction with the name check problem which 0SI instructors had prepared at my direction. I was informed by Major John Adams and Captain William Hendrix that they plan to use this problem in other SIS courses. Case Analyses: The students showed high interest in an assignment to prepare analyses of assigned cases, and those stu- dents selected to present their cases orally did excellent jobs. The faculty intends to use this training device in the future and recorded each presentation to serve as a guide for instructors. I. Conclusions: The course successfully achieved its objectives. In discussing its future, Captain Hendrix, Lt. Col. Burnice Prater and Major Adams stressed the importance of scheduling speakers with opera- tional experience to give a majority of the lectures. They argued that their own personnel did not have sufficient knowledge of clandestine operations to give every talk. However, I did not commit myself or the Office of Training to future runnings of the course. I did suggest that they put their training requests in writing and forward them to the Director of Central Intelligence, attention Director of Training. 5. I have attached a list of student names and military grades. Attachment El~ C 0 FI D 1L Approved For Release 2001/08/31 : CIA-RDP78-05795A000100030092-2
