Approved For Release 2001/ IM-05927A000100040038-4 INTERNAL USE ONLY 7 November 1973 SUBJECT: Comments b regarding Academic Preparation MEMORANDUM OR THE RECORD STATINTL During her exit interview on 31 October, I asked how well she felt her academic training fitted her for duties un erta en in CIA - was there anything we should emphasize in contacts with department chairmen and other authorities when visiting academia? STATINTL~'eeponded as follows: a. The most important training to emphasize is the com- munication of ideas. She was lucky, because she'd had an English minor - even then she had troubles. b. Other important subject preparation for geographers: Basic economics Physical geography Sociology - social anthropology Cultural geography Statistics c. Regional focus is highly desirable, she feels. The work of a new employee inevitably takes longer, requires more checking, and risks being invalid without it.
