SIGNIFICANT ITEMS: None to report. B. OTHER ITEMS: 1. VSS DINNER: later in , me n T'hi '`slay, 30 September, to t to general Eisenhower on 13 Decembexe wanted Larry Houston and` '"'to help the--oamm Eb arrange a dinner, select a guest speaker, and (most important) to publicize th former OSS'ers in CIA. CAfter checking with-CfOS (CIA representative last year), I talked witA Lar Wilu ;SM.Lu lit: .00! had cleared our participation with the DDCI. It has been Mr. Helms' position that security of CIA can best be preserved by having invitations to Agency personnel distributed by someone in CIA. The meeting lasted about two hours and the following tentative plans were made: The dinner will be at the Statler-Hilton because the General prefers to stay there; it will cost $15.00, of which a third goes toward printing, mailing, non-paying guests, etc. Ambassador Goldberg, former OSS'er and a member of the Donovan RET Approved For Release 2009/07/17: CIA-RDP78-06096A000200010039-7 Approved For Release 2009/07/17: CIA-RDP78-06096A000200010039-7 .,r .r Award Committee, was selected as first choice for guest speaker. Eddie assured Larry and me that every effort would be made to keep the affair non-political, although the date selected is the day of a Republican meeting in Washington. Larry volunteered that he might be able to borrow General Donovan's portrait from the Agency for use on the speaker's platform. He also, when asked for a mailing list, said that we would handle distribution of invitations within the Agency. Monday, 4 October, Larry called to tell me that our continued participation had been discussed with Mr. Helms and Col. White. Larry said that they would appreciate it if I could act as a clearing point within the Agency for the affair. I told him I thought the DTR would have no objection. Larry is preparing a notice for internal distribution. The next meeting of the Committee will be on Monday, 11 October. 2. NEW MOVIES: Some time ago Chief OCR/Graphics, called me to point out that Graphics had a number of more up-to-date "tradecraft" films than the old stand-bys that OTR was continuing to use. The Intellofax run he sent over was rather disappointing since most of the films seemed either just as old (in time of setting if not of production) as the ones we have been using, or else of marginal value for tra - poses. We did select one or two for view- ing, however. has informed us that "The Manchurian Candidate" is now among 2 treasures. By coincidence, it was recently shown on TV. Such points as it had were mostly in the propaganda field, though Eva, who admits having slept through much of it, was not overly impressed. 3. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FROM WE: As reported in WAR #14, 14+ June, we accelerated our work on revision of the Reporting Guide to provide C/WE some material to take with him on a swing arouna e circ of WE field stations.
