Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2009/11/06: CIA-RDP78-06096A000200040013-2 Memorandum TO Director of Training DATE: 19 November 1965 FROM : Registrar/TR SUBJECT: Weekly Activities Report No. 37 15 - 19 November 1965 CONFIDENTIAL Thirty-four Senior Officers representing the four Directorates of the Agency and the Office of the DCI attended the two-day Project HELPFUL (a Defense Intelligence Agency Orientation) on 16 & 17 November. Although we had a rash of late cancellations we were short only one of our quota of thirty-five (35) when the sessions convened! This was far better than the Joint Staff's record which was short seven of their fifteen (15) spaces. All concerned in DIA were impressed with the level of our personnel in attendance. From comments of many of the participants including Messrs. John Clarke, Enno Knocke, it 25X1 was a highly worthwhile two days, certainly worth repeating (with some slight modification) at regular intervals. DIA Director, Lieu- tenant General Carroll made a fine opening presentation of approxi- mately twenty-f ive minutes. We have been romised copies of his presentation. Assistant Chief of 25X1 Staff Plans & Programs followed General Carroll with presentations on The Evolution of DIA and on the Organization, Functions and Re- lationships of DIA. On the second day he also made a presentation on Defense Intelligence Planning & Management and then remained, to sit on a panel at the close of each day to answer questions. Rear DIA Chief of Staff joined the group for the question panels and also hosted the group, (at individual expense), at lunch at the Navy Yard Officers Club on the second day. Other presentations were made by Senior DIA Officers on the various Directorates and their functions including a presentation on Defense Intelligence Collection by Assist- 25X1 ant Director for Acquisition. The two days also included tours of the DIA processing and Computer Centers and a visit to the Indica- tions Center. All participants were impressed with the frankness of the dis- cussions, the absence of fault finding, and the apparent emphasis on cooperation and coordination between the two agencies. Several of the speakers made reference to CIA and its personnel as the "true professionals" in the intelligence business. Coffee and doughnuts were provided free of cost which added some status to the program which many of our programs fall short of when we charge visiting participants for their coffee breaks. Transportation for the visits and tours was by bus provided by the Defense Intelligence School. I have attached a list of CIA participants.
