SIGNIFICANT ITEMS None to report. B. OTHER ACTIVITIES 1. A three-week intensive English course for two WH Division sponsored Latin Americans ended last Friday, 6 August, with gratifying results. The course was designed to prepare the students to profit fully from further training scheduled for them here in Washington this summer and fall. A typical work day included four hours of phonology, grammer and controlled conversation in the morning in the students' apartment, lunch and a field trip to various museums and monuments in the afternoon, and an after dinner session in their apartment in which they discussed the afternoon trip. Eight persons participated in the instruction, three of them wives of Agency employees. 2. In the Special Program of Proficiency Testing ~( for SR Division, we have administered 2 more Russian examinations and sent a detailed report to that Division. In all, twelve SR employees have been tested thus far. 3. The series of intensive Spanish oral proficienc tests for DDP was completed on 9 August. Ninety-eight individuals, at levels 1 through 5, were tested. ~ 25X1A 11 on August and plans are near under way for the French and German tests, which 25X1A will be given in September. At the request of 25X1A desk, last week met, gave materials to, and discussed teaching techniques with a instructor 25X1A and an Agency student. The meeting took place in a safehouse where the instruction is going on. The student is scheduled to go out sometime this fall. The instructor is a well-educated only 25X1A recently arrived in the United States. The role of LTS in this case is simply to furnish advice and materials.
