OPTIONAL FORM NO. 10 AppPdVed For Release 20QQiF08/30 : CIA-RDP78-06096A00030005O 0-1 UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT CONFIDENTIAL Memorandum To Director of Training FROM Chief, Language Training School SUBJECT: Weekly Activities Report No. 12 DATE: 3 June 1965 A. SIGNIFICANT ITEMS None to report. B. OTHER ACTIVITIES 25X1A 1. - met with , on 2 June to discuss and coordinate the branch and division requirements for German language training during the coming year and to brief him on LTS facilities and current capabilities.. strongly 25X1A favors full-time language training and said that he will send students to part-time courses or tutorial training only where no other alternative exists. He estimated that EE Division will require full-time training for about 20 students a year for the next few years and that almost all of the training will be concentrated in the first half of the calendar year. 25X1A expressed his satisfaction with the plan suggested by C EE to extend the full-time course to 6 months. 25X1A Such scheduling will tend to load our facilities heavily during the first half of the calendar year. This can perhaps be levelled out if other requirements can be taken care of during the remaining six months of the year. There are numerous advantages to starting several classes at one time, such as aptitude grouping and recombination in case of dropouts. The hiatus between the end of our present class in August and the beginning of the new six-month class can be used to retool the course for the longer period. 2. will meet on 4 June with C/NE and members of his staff to discuss training in Middle Eastern languages, with particular emphasis on coordination of course scheduling. pOCU%l TENT NO. Enrollment in the Voluntary Language Training Program shows a dropout rate of 25% at the end of 10 weeks, our mid- term mark. This is a bette' showing than last semester when 35% of the students enrolled at1beginning had dropped out by mid-term. Ninety-eight out of the original 131 enrolled in March will thus receive mid-term ratings. Every effort is being made to follow up on reasons for dropping out. Instructors are cooperating to the fullest with us. 25X1A Approved For Release 2000/08/30 : CIA-RDP78-06096A000300050030-1 Excluded from automatic downgrading and
