SUBJECT: Availability of Additional Year-end Funds
1. I again. inquired of AC/PS/DDS about the availability
of year-end funds (I had earlier approached him on this on
9 June.). I explained that we have a list of medical equip-
ment items -- with the cost of the total list some $52,000 --
that we would like to procure if such funds are available.
2. indicated that the picture in this respect
still does not look encouraging. Unlike previous years when
"loose ends" could be found and used for equipment purchases,
there are few such funds this year. O/PPB has, he believes,
finished allocating any FY 1971 surpluses and these consisted
of funding for very large items. Unless some desired item
was of the highest priority ("awfully important") he would
not recommend it be requested of O/PPB. And even if it were
an item of such great importance, it would still be a matter
of taking funds from somebody else, i.e., telling some component
that they could not do something. Under the present circum-
stances he would be reluctant to do this and would recommend
against it.
3. volunteered that he would keep our interest
in mind, and if any change develops in the current status of
FY 1971 funds he will let us know.
4. AD/MS, C/CD and C/SD were briefed on the above.
