Approved F elease 2 W.O CIA-RDP78-061 0Q 000300230007-3 12 April 1972 MEMORANDUM FOR: Chief, CIA Historical Staff SUBJECT Status of.the DDS Historical Program, 31 March 1972 1. During the period in review, the Support Services Historical Program continued to close the gap in the catching- up phase of the Agency historical effort. With the publication of fivo more histories, the DDS program.has reached almost 60 percent final completion -- 46 of 77 planned histories are now available in hard cover. (See Attachment A.) 2. Of the 31 histories which are yet to be published, 27 have been completed in draft and are in review, revision, or final typing for publication.. It is estimated that by 1 June 1972, all but eight-to ton of the currently scheduled !histories will probably have been published.By this time the programs of the Offices of Communications, Finance, Logistics, Personnel, and. Training will be essentially completed, with most of their histories actually published. The program in the Office. of Medical Services, though better than a year ago, still is a bottleneck.. In addition to the hang-up in, OMS, there may be one report in Communications, one or two in Personnel., and possibly one in ,Security which will not be tidied up until the end of FY 1972'. (See Attachment D.). Over-all Review of Status of Writers 3. For all practical purposes, there are presently h of ed in on his or . ly ~..o .,~ .~y.. uL - - 25X1A9a program -- in Security and in 25X1A9a Personnel Mr. i writ' or revising all. of the 25X1A9aSecurity histories, and Mr. is preparing the Missing in Action story for Peronnel. Except for I I, who becomes a WAE contract employee of Personnel on i April 1972 and who will be available to clean up the Overview of that Office, there are.no o1bher contract authors involved in the 25X1A9a 25X1A9a DDS program. About.a dozen individuals --:including six from OMS -- have writing r sponsibilities which will require at least some coneentra ed efforts to bring their histories to completion. (See Attachments C, D, and E.) `25X1A9a 4. Some progress has been made on revising the history of the Plar'ning and Construction of the Headquarters Building, but it has./been slow.going.
