Memo of Be Approved For Release 200'9 8/04 : WPi6l"01000700 3-1 FOR: CHIEF/CTP 25X1A FROM: Career Trainee DATE EFFECTIVE: September 23,.1966 1. I have received a very attractive employment offer from Senator Fong (Hawaii). The job calls for my doing research and speech writing in the area of international relations, with emphasis on Pacific and Asian affairs. 2. Aside from being deeply involved in my field of study, I will have the opportunity to complete work on my doctoral dissertation, "The ,Formation of Malaysia and Some of Its Political Repercussions in International Relations.'' In addition, I will be entitled to a month's vacation and a trip to Hawaii each year, a higher salary than what I am presently receiving, and generous raises every year. This offer by Senator Fong is too attractive and beneficial for me to turn down. 3. I have enjoyed my short employment with the Agency and hope that I will have an opportunity to return to it someday. Although I did not get involved in any project of substance, I have acquired a deep appreciation of the dedication and hard work that the officers put into their work. By being exposed to the Agency from the' "inside," I have acquired a better understanding of the value of its operations and will, therefore, become a stronger advocate and apologist of its role in the defense and preservation of our nation's CONFIDENTIAL.
