1. The School is moderately quiet, except for AAO instruction
on Africa and the Far East. Some faculty are on annual leave; others
are using the quiet time for a spurt in developing teaching materials.
A. SIGNIFICANT ITEMS
None to report.
B. OTHER. ACTIVITIES
3. The French Department is giving 2 new courses beginning
3 January: Intermediate, Phase I, and Advanced Seminar. A new
program, including intensive use of several modern French plays,
will be introduced.
I.L. The Language Testing Section is in the process of closing
its books for 1961, consolidating files for inactive storage, de-
stroying obsolete materials, and preparing logs tend registration
forms for the coming year.
During the past week 2-i? written proficiency tests were given
in Russian and Spanish. Fourteen of the candidates were from DDP
rend 10 from other components. Five oral proficiency tests were
given during the past week in Arabic, Spanish and Swedish. All 5
of the candidates were from ebmponents other than DDP. Forty-six
Language Award certificates were forwarded to the Registrar this
past week.
