I have had brief, informal conversations with both. Admiral dePoix (Direector), and Lt. Gen. John Deane, Jr. (Deputy Director). They are generally aware of, and appreciate, the Agency's support to DIS programs. 2. Pro cf. HELPFUL Apr arentl a Success This one-day orientation conducted by DIA for about 100 persons from CIA, NSA, and State at the Defense Intelligence School on 16 November, appears to have been a success from every stand- point. Speakers were well-prepared and candid in their descriptions and appraiuuals of DIA programs and activities. The 34 attendees from CIA almost universally expressed praise for the programs which concluded with a one-hour question/answer session with the Director. DMA, and four of his Deputy Directors. I delivered the written invitation this week and I am expected to intro- duce him to, the audience at 1000 on that date. 4. DlSrd of Visitors Meet The DIS Board of Visitors consisting of eight distinguished academicians and senior retired military officers convened for two sys during late October to review objectives and programs for FY-73- I had informal conversations with several of our old Agency friends -- Adm. Rufus Taylor and Lyman Kirkpatrick. Lyman told me the page drafts of his now book on the intelligence community are being d bylr the DCI; Ray Cline, INR; and Adm. dePoia. He expects it published shortly and I believe It will fill a real gap in the 5. It turned out to be highly success- ccordtacg t who sat In on almost commanders. The students were, enthusiastic in their response to all Impact of Intelligence on the decisions of the fleet and unified forces the entire day. It included the showing of the ME film, an excellent historical analysis of earlier years by Sherman Kent, a discussion of current problems by Bruce Clarke, and an afternoon with Admiral 1. C. Kidd, USN, who had commanded the Sixth U. S. Fleet and who described a speakers particularly to the in-depth, all-source discussion c:k conducted. Administrative Notes I plan to be on leave this Friday, 24 November,, and expect to take a few days leave in December between courses here. With your approval, I have agreed to serve on a special planning committee for the first later-governmental conference on Instructional Technology scheduled for September 1973. This is the first of its kind sponsored by the CSC and should be of wide interest to this Agency.
