Approved For Rel se 2002/05/16: CIA-R M - A0 300010002-5 DD/S 72-0140 13 JAN 1972 MEMORANDUM FOR: Chairman, Information Processing Board SUBJECT : Vulnerability of CIA Computer Centers to Fire and Water Damage REFERENCE : Your memo to DD/S IPC dtd 4 Aug 71, same subject (PPB 71-1251) 1. The Office of Security has conducted a survey of the NPIC, ISD, CRS, and OCS computer centers to determine their vulnerability to fire and water damage.' The results of this survey are attached. 2. My first reaction in reading the report was that it would be totally impractical to expect all of the deficiencies noted to be corrected. The authors acknowledge this but believe their total findings should be recorded for guidance in working toward the reduction of hazards. I believe this is understood by the components concerned and I understand that copies of pertinent portions of the report have been sent directly to them. In some cases corrective action has already been started. Mr. Wattles has asked the Offices of Logistics and Security how the conditions reported in the survey were allowed to develop but we have decided to forward the report without awaiting the answer to that question. 3. The Office of Security expresses its appreciation for the cooperation and assistance they received from the components involved during the course of the survey. /0' 4 .
