Approved For Release 2005/125JEC, M 87181R000200050050-7 0 June 1969 SUBJECT: Language Development Program A meeting concerning the Language Development Program was held on June 6, 1969. In attendance were Chief, PMCD/OP; Office of Training Language School, and representing OCS/SIPS. The following is a synopsis of the points covered during the meeting. 1) presented the proposed OCS/MSD/M&P package (see attached) concerning the Language Development Program outlining in detail the changes/ additions to the current Position Control Register and the objectives of the new Language Control Register. Several copies of the proposed package were given to each individual for further study. 21, following items: expressed concern over the a) A number of the languages and/or dialetts on the present language file were obsolete and no longer in use. He felt that the first order of business would be to clean up the language codes and asked that a roster of all codes be given to him so that the language school could determine those that are no longer valid. Upon receipt of his findings, OC /MSD/M&P would then determine which codes, if any, could be deleted. Therefore, he could not understand how an employee's language record could show him as being tested in a particular dialect of a language. c) The Language unit/Position Requirements received to date have not specified specific dialects of a language, only `general language grouping.' Since 'general' language codes do not exist (i.e. a code for French with no dialect), it would be impossible to input these requirements into the system. It was pointed out that it would be necessary to input all dialects of the language. 3) tated that he was not in a position to answer questions or make any final decisions concerning the Language Development Program and asked if the presentation could be made to the Language Committee on 16 June at 10:00 AM for their consideration. In conclusion, neither realized the number or the complexity of the questions that must be answered before a final decision can be made on the proposed Language Development Program package. Therefore, final approval/disapproval of the proposed package is pending until after the presentation to the Language Committee. Approved For Release 2, 1TDP78-07181 R000200050050-7
