ICBM LAUNCH COMPLEX, TEYKOVO, USSR
An ICBM launch complex consisting of two launch areas under con-
struction, a complex support facility, and arail-to-road transfer point
was identified on KEYHOLE photography of near
the town of Teykovo and about 15 nautical miles (nm) southwest of Ivanovo
(Figure 1). A third launch area under construction was identified on

photography of A survey of previous photography of the com-
plex area revealed no construction activity in however, one
25X1 D year later, in the Complex Support Facility and Rail-to-
Road Transfer Point were under construction. The locations of the launch
areas were cloud covered at the time of the later photography. In
25X1 D _ construction of Launch Area A had started, but no recognizable
pattern had evolved.
LAUNCH AREAS
The three launch areas comprising the Teykovo Complex, each in a
wooded location, are of Yur' ya Type 2. They are in various stages of
construction and are on an azimuth of approximately 295 degrees (f 5
degrees). The straight-line distance between Launch Areas A and B is
3.6 nm, between Launch Areas A and C 5.6 nm, and between Launch Areas

missile transporters within the complex. 25X1 D 25X1 D
Launch Area A. Launch Area A is located at 56-54-~N 40-26~E,
approximately 4.5 nm northwest of Teykovo (Figure 3). It lies approxi-
mately 4.25 nm west-northwest of the Rail-to-Road Transfer Point in a
straight line and 7.1 nm by the complex main road.
Each of the launch pads contains an elongated dark object, possibly
an erector or carriage, 75 to 80 feet in length and of an irregular and
undeterminable width. The launch pads are elliptical and measure approx-
imately 325 by 115 feet. Cable galleries connect the launch pads to the
launch control bunker. The more northerly pad is supported by a canted
missile-ready building 170 by 125 feet. An unidentified object 80 feet
long is on the apron in front of the building, The other ready building, under
construction, is directly in line with the pad. Each building lies 700 fees
behind its respective pad. The offset road is still under construction. A
security building is located on the service road immediately outside the
fence surrounding the area and approximately 1, 200 feet south of the cen-
ter of the launch area. A ditch, the purpose of which is unknown, has
been dug from the southern side of the northern ready building to the
launch support area.
The launch support area for Launch Area A lies approximately
3,400 feet south of the launch area and contains 4 two-story buildings,
4 single-story buildings, and 2 buildings under construction. A con-
struction camp lies approximately 1,500 feet southeast of the launch sup-
port area and consists of 9 two-story buildings, each approximately 150
by 40 feet; one two-story building, 100 by 40 feet; 4 one-story buildings,
each 140 by 30 feet; 2 L-shaped buildings, each 120 by 100 feet overall;
7 one-story buildings, each 100 by 30 feet; and 11 smaller structures.
Launch Area B. Launch Area B, located at 56-56-.N 40-33~E
(Figure 4), is approximately 5.1 nm north of Teykovo and 2.8 nm north-
northwest of the Rail-to-Road Transfer Point. The distance by the com-
plex main road from the Transfer Point is approximately 3.2 nm.

Each of the launch pads has an elongated object 85 feet in length and
of undeterminable width, similar to those at Launch Area A. 'l~hese objects
appear to be higher than those at Launch Area A. 'l he launch pads are
similar in configuration and size to those at L,aunclz Area A, but tree
shadows preclude making detailed measurements. 'l i1e launch control
area contains a bunker 120 by 60 feet, a building 85 feet square, and a
small structure 20 feet square located in an excavation. '1 wo L-shaped
buildings are located in the immediate launch area., the eastern one
measuring 105 by 105 feet overall and the western one 11U by 85 feet
overall. The western one of these buildings has an unidentified object
on the roof that appears to be a dome and may be a guidance facility.
The northern pad is supported by a canted ready building which lies
600 feet behind the pad. The ready building serving the southern pad is in
line with the pad and is 700 feet behind the pad. Just outside the fence
surrounding the area and along the service road is a security building.
Vague evidence of a scar connecting the northern ready building and the
launch support area may indicate a possible buried pipe or cable.
'l.'he launch support area lies approximately 2,4UU feet south of the
launch area anal consists of 5 three-story buildings, 4 two-story buildings,
2 single-story buildings, a hangar-type building, and 2 buildings under
construction. A construction camp, consisting of approximately 20 build-
ings, lies across the access road from the launch support area. All
structures in the camp appear to be single story. rihcre are 4 buildings
approximately 110 by 30 feet each; 3 buildings 100 by 30 feet each;
2 L-shaped buildings, one 130 by 90 feet overall and the other 100 by 100
overall; and 9 miscellaneous structures. A motor pool is located in the
southern part of the camp and contains probable earth movers, at least
30 trucks, and. smaller vehicles and equipment. 25X1 D 25X1 D
Launch Area C. Launch Area C, located at 56-S5-~N 40-16-.E
(Figure 5), is 9.6 nm west-northwest of 'Ieykovo and 9.8 nm west of the
Rail-to-Road `lransfer Yoint. At present the only connection with the
`Transfer Point is by way of the highway through `I'eykovo.

rectangular patte=rn of the launch
area was recognizable and no build-
ings were evident. A ditch connect-
ing the launch pad areas bisects the
launch area. No security fencing was
evident at the timE: of the
coverage. 25X1D
Approximately 13 single-story
structures are located in the vicinity
of the launch area. In one clearing
located 2, 700 feet south of the launch
area are four buildings, each ap-
proximately 100 by 30 feet. Located
2,600 feet southeast of the launch
area is a second clearing, probably
intended for the launch support area,
containing one building 130 by 40 feet
and an L-shaped building 90 by 70
feet overall. A building 40 feet
square lies on the opposite side of the
access road from the second clear-
ing. A third clearing approximately
one nm southeast of the launch area
and adjacent to the access road con-
tains 6 buildings, 5 of which are ap-
proximately 100 by 30 feet and one
approximately 120 by 30 feet.

'l he Rail-to-Road Z ransfer Yoint lies in a partly cleared wooded area
at 56-53?~N 40-34~E, approximately 2.5 nm north-northeast of Teykovo
and 1.5 nm north-northwest of the 'ieykovo-Ivanovo railroad line (Figure
6;. A spur 1.7 nm in length serves the transfer point from the main rail
line. The roads within the transfer point have an average width of 20 feet.
'lhe main section of the transfer point consists of a concrete loop road
955 by 400 feet; two concrete handstands, one feet and the other
230 by 60 feet; one and possibly two rail sidings with an associated hand-
stand 650 by 45 feet; and approximately five buildings. A second loop
road to the south lies between the main section and the complex main road.

Adjacent to the northwest corner of the second loop road is a T-shaped
probable high-bay building 120 by 90 feet. There is no evidence of security
fencing around the area.
North of the main loop road at the end of a road from the transfer point
is a probable bunkered storage area within a security fence measuring
1, 000 by 650 feet. This area contains three probable bunkers measuring
100 by 100 feet, 160 by 100 feet, and 325 by 100 feet.
COMPLEX SUPPORT FACILITY
The Complex Support Facility straddles the Teykovo-Ivanovo main
:road, which separates the rail spurs to the south frorn the housing-admin-
istration and warehouse areas to the north (Figure 7). 'The rail spur serving
the support facility is different from that serving the Rail-to-Koad 'T'ransfer
Point. This is only the second time that two such spurs have been observed
at a Soviet ICBM complex and may indicate that the rriissiles are not
necessarily processed through the Complex Support. Facility but may go
directly to the Transfer Point. The other instance of such an arrangement
is at I
