This report is a partial answer to DIA
requirement DIA-AP1-63-88, to verify or pin-
point the location of Soviet military garrisons
in Poland and to perform a photo analysis to
determine boundaries of the installations, to
determine function, number and dimensions of
buildings, to estimate troop capacity, and to
identify and describe related training areas and

Military Barracks No 3 and 7 are reported
as one since they are contiguous installations
and appear on the photography as a single area.
This possibly secured area 0.8 miles west
of Swidnica covers approximately 30 acres and
contains:
5 multistory barracks, each 50 by 170
feet, a total of 85,000 square feet of
floor space
2 one-story administration buildings, each
40 by 85 feet, a total of 6,800 square feet
of floor space
4 one-story vehicle sheds, 35 by 390, 35
by 285, 35 by 145, and 35 by 130 feet, a
total of 33,250 square feet of floor space
2 one-story vehicle maintenance sheds,
one 40 by 225 and one 50 by 210 feet,
a total of 19,500 square feet of floor
space, and
3 one-story storage buildings, one 40 by
145 and two 35 by 85 feet, a total of
11,750 square feet of floor space.
However, the marginal quality and small scale
of the available photography reduces the accu-
racy of the building count and dimension fig-
ures. No coverage was used due to
extremely poor quality. All dimensions of mul-
tistory buildings are based on a minimum of two
stories. The installations described below are
shown in Figure 1.

Training Area
A training area covering approximately 270
acres and containing two driver training courses
is located immediately north of barracks area.

facilities are observed.

graphic coverage reveals these two barracks
areas as adjacent and unseparated. Building
count, type, and dimensions were taken from
25X1 D
which is of only fair quality,
but is the best coverage.
This secured barracks area on the south-
west edge of Swidnica covers approximately 25
acres and contains:
3 multistory barracks, each 170 by 50
feet
5 multistory barracks, each 110 by 25
feet
6 multistory barracks, each 90 by 30 feet,
a total for the 14 barracks of 110,900
square feet of floor space
1 multistory T-shaped administration
building, the base 115 by 25 and the
wing 105 by 35 feet, a total of 13,100
square feet of floor space, and
3 one-story storage buildings, each 50 by
25 feet, a total of 3,750 square feet of
floor space.
No associated ammunition storage, POL or
training facilities observed.

Poor image quality and small scale of
available photography precludes an analytical
interpretation of the area annotated on Figure
1 as the location of Military Barracks No 17.

This probably secured area on the north
edge of Swidnica covers approximately 30 acres
and contains:
8 multistory barracks, two 45 by 155, two
35 by 130, and four 40 by 115 feet, a
total of 82,900 square feet of floor space
1 multistory administration building 35 by
125 feet, a total of 8,750 square feet of
floor space, and
8 one-story storage buildings, one 35 by
320, one 30 by 300, one 25 by 290, one
40 by 280, one 35 by 260, one 50 by 225,
one 30 by 250, and one 30 by 145 feet,
a total of 72,350 square feet of floor
space.
No associated ammunition storage, POL
storage, training areas, or facilities are ob-
served.
