This report is a partial answer to DIA re-
quirement DIAXX 63-84, to verify the location
of selected military installations in Hungary
and to perform a photo analysis to determine
function, number and dimensions of buildings,
to estimate troop capacity, to identify and de-
scribe related training areas and facilities,
and to confirm or negate ammunition and
POL storage.

This report covers seven military areas
in the Komarom area. The total troop capacity
of the three barracks areas is 7,320.* The
installations described below are shown in
Figure 1.
A. Komarom Army Training Area West No 2
Troop capacity: not applicable
This military training area located one mile
west of Komarom covers approximately 200
acres, and is circumvented by a well-used
road. It consists of an open area with vehicle
tracks and other ground scars.
B. Reported Ammunition Storage

*Troop capacity is computed on a basis of 50 square feet
of space per man.
This installation covers approximately 60
acres and consists of an old fort on the south
bank of the Danube River on the northwest
edge of Komarom. It is immediately west of
the Komarom Army Barracks and Depot No 2,
to which it is connected by road. The fort, on
poor quality photography, appears intact, with
a rail spur entering it from the main line; how-
ever, there is no definite indication of ammuni-
tion storage.
C. Komarom Army Barracks and Depot No 2

Troop capacity: 1,240
This installation located on the south bank
of the Danube River on the northwest edge of
Komarom covers approximately 25 acres.
(Adjacent on its west side is an old fortress
described separately in this report under B.)
This installation contains:
3 two-story barracks buildings, two 220
by 50 and one 180 by 50 feet, a total
of 62,000 square feet of floor space
3 storage buildings ranging from 210 by
55 to 150 by 45 feet, a total of 26,175
square feet
10 miscellaneous support buildings rang-
ing from 140 by 35 to 35 by 20 feet
no observed ammunition or POL storage.

This military installation located within
the western section of Komarom covers 40
acres and contains:
20 H-shaped probably one-story barracks
buildings, each with a base 25 by 20
feet and two wings 60 by 40 feet
4 E-shaped probably two-story barracks
buildings, each with a base 200 by 40
feet and three wings 50 by 20 feet, a
total for the 24 barracks buildings of
194,000 square feet of floor space
1 one-story administration building 200
by 50 feet
1 two-story administration building 200
by 40 feet, a total for the two adminis-
tration buildings of 26,000 square feet
3 storage buildings, each 250 by 75 feet,
a total of 56,250 square feet
9 miscellaneous support buildings rang-
ing from 140 by 50 to 45 by 35 feet
no observed ammunition or POL storage.
E. Komarom Army Barracks and Depot No 1
Coordinates: 47-44-40N 018-06-20E

Troop capacity: 2,200
This installation located on the southwest
edge of Komarom covers 50 acres and contains:
2 two-story barracks buildings, each 290
by 60 feet
1 three-story barracks building 250 by 45
feet
1 one-story barracks building 190 by 35
feet, a total for the four barracks build-
ings of 110,000 square feet of floor
space
1 one-story administration building 170
by 35 feet
1 T-shaped one-story administration build-
ing with a base of 70 by 40 feet and a
110- by 40-foot wing

1 L-shaped one-story administration build-
ing with a base 85 by 40 feet and a wing
35 by 25 feet, a total for the three ad-
ministration buildings of 17,425 square
feet
13 storage buildings ranging from 140 by
50 to 80 by 80 feet, a total of 97,000
square feet
2 vehicle sheds, each 270 by 40 feet
6 miscellaneous support buildings ranging
from 100 by 45 to 40 by 25 feet
no observed ammunition or POL storage.
F. Army Training Area
Coordinates: 47-44-25N 018-06-20E

Troop capacity: not applicable
(This training area was reported to be at
47-45-OON 018-07-OOE; however, there is no
training area at this location. The military
training area identified here is located approx-
imately 0.7 miles southwest of the reported
coordinates.)
This military training area located on the
southwest edge of Komarom is adjacent to the
Komarom Army Barracks and Depot No 1 and
covers approximately 50 acres. It contains
trenches, bunkers, and foxholes. A sports
field is located at the north end of the train-
ing area. Immediately north of the sports
field and alongside the barracks area is a
small arms firing range 175 by 35 feet.
G. Komarom Army Training Area East No 1
Troop capacity: not applicable
This training area located on the north-
east edge of Komarom immediately south of
the Danube River covers approximately 50
acres. It contains irregular track patterns,
ground scarring, and a sports field.
