The Zagorsk Rocket Test Facility Kras-
nozavodsk I is situated at
56-25N 38-10E, 7 nautical miles (nm) north-
northeast of Zagorsk, USSR, and 44 nm north-
east of Moscow (Figure 1). The Krasnozavodsk
Ammunition Plant is 2.5 nm to the northeast,
and Moscow SAM Site E03-1 is 2.5 nm to the
southeast. Two nearby unidentified installations
are possibly related to the rocket test facility.
Of these, Installation No 1 is situated at 56-27N
38-05E, 3.5 nm northwest of the facility and
0.5 nm west of the village of ludino; Installation
No 2 is situated at 56-29N 38-03E, 5 nm north-
west of the facility.
This rocket test facility was the subject of
a previous photographic interpretation report
which was based on photography from Q

The test facility consists of a secured area

completed and that the new access road is ap-
parently complete.
Photography I shows that
the apron at Test Stand 1 (Figure 3) has been
widened near the recently enlarged checkout/
assembly building, that a new support building
(item 4) is under construction nearby, and that
some unidentified construction activity is under-
way at the northeast side of the test facility.
The new housing/storage area is walled along
two sides and contains 13 housing and/or storage
buildings and an area containing materials in
open storage. Photography o
shows that the new support building (item 4)
has been completed, together with a short
service road and a small building. The support
building (item 6) adjacent to the new support
building (item 4) has undergone no observed
changed since 0 Dimensions of the
principal buildings in the test area are presented
in the table on Figure 3.
Perspective views of the three vertical test
stands are presented on Figure 4. All building
dimensions and distance measurements pre-
sented in the following discussion of the test

stands are approximate unless otherwise
qualified.
Test Stand 1
Test Stand 1 is situated at the end of an
85-foot-wide ramp that extends 795 feet from
a large checkout/assembly building. The width
of the ramp increases to more than 250 feet
in front of the checkout assembly building to
form a large apron. The central part of the
test stand measures 85 by 85 feet and is
estimated to be 200 feet in height, measuring
from the blast pit to the top of the stand. Two
smaller sections of the test stand are on either
side of and just behind the main component of
the stand. These sections measure 80 by 50
feet each and are an estimated 150 feet in
height. A platform appears to encircle the
front of the stand near the 100-foot level,
and a dark circular object without apparent
height is seen on top of the stand. A control
building is situated on a bluff 500 feet to the
northeast.
"Test Stand 2 is situated at the end of a
100-foot-wide ramp overhanging a ravine. The
stand measures 40 by 40 feet and is estimated
to have a height of 100 feet from the bottom
of the ravine to the top of the stand. A building
adjacent to the stand measures 60 by 50 feet,
and a control building is situated 500 feet to
the east. A checkout building is 355 feet to
the south and is connected to the ramp by a
wide apron.
Test Stand 3
Test Stand 3 is positioned against the side
of a ravine 245 feet north of a checkout building
to which it is connected by a 50-foot-wide apron.
The stand is 160 feet long, 30 feet wide on the
west end, 40 feet wide on the east end, and has
an estimated height of 150 feet from the bottom
of the ravine. The long axis of the stand is
oriented parallel to the side of the embank-
ment. A control building is 200 feet to the
west of the stand.
