This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pic (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing :ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing area or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Vetrino Army Barracks Polotsk Southwest
is located 24 kilometers (km) southwest of
Polotsk (55-29N 28-48E) and 0.7 km west of
Vetrino (55-24N 28-28E) on the north side of
the Polotsk-Vileyka rail line (Figure 1). The
installation is not rail served. Secondary roads
provide access to Polotsk via Vetrino. A num-
ber of military installations are located in the
Polotsk area.
The installation covers approximately 200
acres and contains five barracks, 10 small
storage buildings, 13 support buildings and two
motor pools with 12 vehicle sheds (Figures 2
and 3). Training facilities include one wheeled-
vehicle driver training course and one athletic
field.

range at Pashutino, 3.5 km south, has been
abandoned. photography re-
vealed an MRBM launch area in the vicinity of
the abandoned moving target runs.
Railroad Service
The double-track Polotsk-Vileyka rail line
passes 4,000 feet south of this installation.
Road Service
Secondary roads provide access to Polotsk
via Vetrino.
Administrative and Troop Housing Areas
Two multistory barracks and five support
buildings are located in area Dl (Figure 3).
Three multistory barracks, five support
buildings and 10 storage buildings are located
in area D2.
Track activity indicates both areas are
active.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Areas
Nine vehicle sheds with the following dimen-
sions are located in area J1: six 200 by 50 feet,
and three 180 by 50 feet. Three support build-
ings are also located in the area. This area is
a large secured motor pool with evidence of
increased track activity prior to

Area J2, a motor pool located on the west
edge of the barracks complex, consists of three
175- by 60-foot vehicle sheds. There is evidence
of increased track activity on
