This report is one in a. series on Soviet Ground Force and logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center IPic (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing area or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

A secured storage area, formerly a facil-
ity of Polotsk Army Barracks South (BE No
is located 0.7 kilometers (km)
south of Polotsk (55-29N 028-48E) on the south
bank of the Dvina River, and on the north side
of the Polotsk-Vileyka rail line (Figure 1).
The installation is served by a spur from the
Polotsk-Vileyka rail line and has all-weather
primary road connections to Polotsk. Six km
to the north on the north side of Polotsk is the
Polotsk Army Barracks and Maneuver Area
and 18 km to the
northwest is Polotsk Army Barracks Borovukha
The storage area has
access to both barracks areas via urban streets.
The installation (Figures 2 and 3) covers
approximately 70 acres and includes one admin-
istration, one barracks, 14 storage and 11 sup-
port buildings.

motor pools have been removed and a related
Military Training Area one km east has been
returned to cultivation. - The installation has
decreased in overall size by 20 acres. No rail
or road activity was observed during the winter
months, and the level of summer activity ap-
pears to have greatly decreased.
The storage area itself is served by a single
track spur from the double-tracked Polotsk-
Vileyka rail line that passes adjacent to the
south side of the installation.
All-weather primary roads serve the area
from Polotsk.
Administrative and Troop Housing Area
Area Dl (Figure 3) contains one multistory
T-shaped administration building, one multi-
story barracks, and one support building. Since
Q the military upkeep of this area has de-
teriorated and no longer reveals well-defined
track activity.
General Storage Areas
Area El contains four storage and eight
small support buildings located along the rail
spur as it enters the area. Area E2 contains
10 storage and two support buildings and the
terminus of the rail spur. Both areas appear
inactive during the winter.
