Sherlovaya Army Barracks (Figure 1) is
located on the east edge of Sherlovaya Goya
(50-31N 116-23E), 16 kilometers (km) north-
northwest of Borzya on the Chita-Otpor line
of the Trans-Siberian railroad. The instal-
lation has access to two rail sidings and is
served by a probable hard surface, all-weather
road. The principal civilian activity at Sher-
lovaya Goya is in support of extensive mining
north of the town.
The installation (Figures 2 and 3) encompas-
ses approximately 1,500 acres and includes a
total of 111 buildings consisting of 49 admin-
istrative/barracks buildings, six general stor-
age buildings, four ammunition storage build-
ings, 33 support buildings, and 19 vehicle main-

tion also includes a POL facility, a small arms

indicates a high level of occu-
pancy. The same apparent activity level ap-
pears in the late summer coverage.
Area D2 has five administration buildings,
two administration buildings/barracks and four
support buildings. The area includes a possi-
ble drill field and appears occupied and active.

General Storage Areas
Area El has six storage and two support
buildings. It is secured. There is extensive
secured general and special storage located im-
mediately north and west of the installation.
The access routes and traffic patterns indicate
that these facilities are primarily in support
of the mining and industrial activity in the area.
Ammunition Storage Areas
A secured ammunition storage area with
four 60- by 35-foot bunkers is located in the
maneuver and field training facility (not shown
on sketch). There is additional probable ex-
plosives storage just west of the installation.
A probable POL and secured storage area
is located immediately north of the installation.
This facility appears to be in support of the
mining and industrial activity in the area. There
is no direct access to this facility from the
barracks area.
Area H1 has four probable shops and Area
H2 has five support buildings.
Area J1 has eight buildings, two of which
are 180 by 55 feet, three are 120 by 55 feet,
two are 160 by 60 feet, and one is 170 by 45
feet. The area appears to be associated with
tracked vehicles, probably tanks/self-propel-
led guns. Possible rows of equipment are

Area J2 has 11 buildings, of which three
are 215 by 65 feet, two are 215 by 85 feet, two
are 100 by 50 feet, two are 85 by 55 feet, and
two are 50 by 35 feet. The area appears to be
associated with tracked vehicles, possibly prime
movers or armored personnel carriers. Track-
age is directly associated with the driver train-
ing course.
