This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Plc (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center 1P lc.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (II) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-

SUMMARY
A large military headquarters and barracks
complex covering approximately 6 square kilo-
meters (sq km) is located 9 km northwest of
the center of Lvov, immediately north of Lvov
Ammunition Storage Depot North. The complex
appears to be still under construction. Two rail
lines pass through the complex. No rail spurs
or sidings were noted. All roads within the com-
plex appear to be dirt.
The complex contains 14 separate areas.
There are eight barracks/administration areas
with a total of four administration buildings/
barracks, 27 barracks, 11 administration build-
ings, 11 storage buildings, 18 support buildings,
eight dependents quarters, and one motor vehicle
maintenance building. Two motor vehicle stor-
age/maintenance areas and one motor vehicle
park contain four motor vehicle storage sheds,
two maintenance buildings, three support build-
ings, one unidentified building, and four rows
of vehicles. Two general storage areas contain

a total of 11 storage buildings, two administra-
tion buildings, and at least 20 small unidentified
buildings. A POL storage area contains four
POL tanks, two storage buildings, four support
buildings, and an administration building. Am-
munition is stored immediately south of the
complex at the Lvov Ammunition Depot North.
Training facilities are located approximately
20 km northwest at the Lvov Training Area.

The area reportedly was under construction
prior to I Ihowever, available photographic
coverage is inadequate to make an accurate
comparison. The number of headquarters areas
and the vast area in the vicinity of the new com-
plex suggest that many of the small military
installations within the city limits of Lvov are
being moved to this complex. Many of the pri-
vate homes within the complex have been fenced
off and included in the military areas.
DESCRIPTION OF INSTALLATION
Railroad Service
Rail lines run through the complex but no
rail spurs or sidings were noted.
Road Service
Roads throughout the area are primarily
dirt.
Administrative and Troop Housing Areas
Area D1 contains two multistory barracks,
one multistory administration building, six stor-
age buildings, and eight support buildings.
Area D2 contains five multistory barracks,
one T-shaped multistory administration build-
ing, and one support building.
Area D3 contains four multistory admin-
istration buildings/barracks (probable head-
quarters), two support buildings, and one stor-
age building.
Area D4 (possible headquarters) contains
one barracks, four multistory administration
buildings, and two support buildings.
Area D5 is a barracks area with five
barracks, one storage building, one T-shaped
multistory administration building, and two sup-
port buildings.
Area D6 is a barracks area with six multi-
story barracks and one multistory support
building.
Area D7 is a barracks area with six bar-
racks, one administration building, and one
support building.

Area D8, a possible headquarters and
barracks area under construction, contains
three administration buildings, two barracks,
eight probable dependents quarters, two sup-
port buildings, three storage buildings, and one
230- by 45-foot motor vehicle maintenance
building.
General Storage Areas
Area El contains two administration build-
ings, five storage buildings, and at least 20
miscellaneous buildings (probably part of a
town before the military took over the area).
This area is in thick woods and all of the build-
ings cannot be counted.
Area E2 contains six storage buildings.
Ammunition Storage Area
The large Lvov Ammunition Storage Depot
North is 2 km south of this installation.
POL Storage Area
Area G contains four POL tanks, each 75
feet in diameter, two storage buildings, four

support buildings, and one administration
building.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Areas
Area J1 contains two motor vehicle sheds,
one measuring 500 by 35 feet and one 200 by 35
feet; one 150- by 40-foot motor vehicle main-
tenance building; one support building; and one
building outside the fenced area. Approximately
50 vehicles in two rows were observed in
Area J2, a possible vehicle park, contains
one support building. Two rows of possible
vehicles were observed in
Area J3 contains two storage sheds, one
measuring 480 by 35 feet and one 240 by 35
feet; one 160- by 45-foot maintenance building;
and one support building.
Driver Training Area
Area M is an irregularly shaped driver
training course.
