This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1P1c (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center IP lc.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and. letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (Il) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage /maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Two military installations are located in
the center of Lvov (Figure 1). The Army Bar-
racks, which covers 41 acres, is an old Prus-
sian fort with high stone walls. It is located
on a hill and contains 20 buildings: one long
multistory administration building/barracks,
two multistory barracks, two administration
buildings, four storage buildings, eight support
buildings, two motor vehicle storage buildings,
and a vehicle maintenance building.
The Military-Political Officer Candidate
School covers 77 acres and contains 57 build-
ings: 15 large, multistory, irregularly shaped
buildings probably used as barracks and class-
rooms; 18 other multistory buildings; two motor
vehicle storage buildings; two motor vehicle
maintenance buildings; and 20 smaller support
buildings. There are three athletic fields within
the installation.
Both installations have good interior all-
weather roads. There are no rail facilities or
spurs within either installation. Ammunition for
the installations is probably stored in Lvov Am-
munition Depot North which is 7 kilometers (km)
north. The Lvov Airfield is located 5 km west.
The nearest training area is located 15 km north-
west.
Administrative and Troop Housing Areas
Area D1, in the Army Barracks, contains
one large multistory administration building/
barracks; two multistory barracks, two admin-
istration buildings, four storage buildings, eight
miscellaneous support buildings, and four old
circular gun emplacements.
Area D2, in the Officer Candidate School,
contains 15 multistory administration buildings/
barracks, two administration buildings, 11 mul-
tistory barracks, five storage buildings, and 18
support buildings.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Areas
Area J1, in the Army Barracks, contains one
180- by 35-foot motor vehicle storage building,
one 100- by 35-foot motor vehicle storage build-
ing, and one motor vehicle maintenance build-
ing with two 65- by 40-foot rows of vehicles.
Area. J2, in the Officer Candidate School,
contains two 250- by 70-foot motor vehicle
storage buildings, two 200- by 55-foot support
buildings, one 110- by 45-foot motor vehicle
maintenance building, and one 85- by 30-foot
motor vehicle maintenance building.
Athletic Fields
Three athletic tracks (K1, K2, and K3) are
located in the Officer Candidate School.
