This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Plc (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center IP lc.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (F) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (II) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified

A probable vehicle test, maintenance, and
training area is located adjacent to Slatina-
Doly (Figure 1). The main part of the instal-
lation is directly south, but training and test-
ing areas extend east and north of the town.
Rail service is provided by spurs from the
Teresua-Veliky Bychkov line, with one spur
in the eastern sector of the installation and
two spurs in the vehicle maintenance area.
Good, all-weather roads connect the instal-

lation to Slatina-Doly.
The installation contains at least 102 build-
ings, including administration, barracks, stor-
age, and support buildings, plus vehicle test-
ing and training courses (Figures 2 and 3).
=KEYHOLE missions have covered the
installation. Poor quality photography pre-
cludes detailed interpretation, but the area
appears to be set up for heavy maintenance.
A spur from the Teresua-Veliky Bychkov
rail line runs north to south in the eastern
sector of the installation, and two spurs from
the same line run to the center of the vehicle
maintenance area.
Area F is a possible explosives area, is
secured by a fence, and contains 2 possible
storage buildings and one possible bunker.
Good, all-weather roads connect the in-
stallation to the Slatina-Doly highway system.
Area D1 (Figure 3) contains 3 administra-
tion buildings, 7 single-story barracks, 5 sup-
port buildings, and 7 storage buildings.
Area D2 contains 3 single-story possible
barracks, 7 possible dependent quarters, and
5 support buildings.
Area E is secured by a fence and contains
7 storage buildings.
Area H is possibly connected with the
military installation and contains 10 uniden-
tified buildings.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Buildings
Area J1 contains one administration build-
ing, probably used as a dispatcher's office,
one 250- by 40-foot motor vehicle storage/
maintenance shed, one probable work shop,
and one support/storage building.
Area J2 contains two 180- by 40-foot
motor vehicle storage shops, two support build-
ings, and six possible rows of vehicles adjacent
to the area.
Area J3 is the center of activity at the in-
stallation. It contains 4 administration build-
ings, 8 probable motor vehicle maintenance/

storage buildings, 3 shop buildings, 20 storage
buildings, and 17 support buildings. Two rail
spurs provide this area with heavy transpor-
tation support and railside storage.
Driver Training Areas
Area M1 is a vehicle test circuit. It
has been established on a ridge of high ground
north-northwest of Slatina-holy and appears
to be used mainly for tracked vehicles. It
comprises a straight run approximately 1,500
yards long with a loop track at the southeast
end.
Area M2 is a possible wheeled-vehicle
driving course southwest of the large test
circuit and is approximately 800 yards long.
Area M3 is a figure-8 driving track.
Area M4 is a possible vehicle driving
course. This bell-shaped circuit incorporates
part of the town road net and is approximately
700 yards long and has possible test facilities
in its center.
Area M5 is a possible vehicle driving
circuit incorporating part of the town road
net and covering an area approximately 700
by 600 yards.
Area P is a possible short tank firing
range, with tanks firing short rounds into a
hillside less than 100 yards away. Firing is
possible from a fixed position or while moving
along a road. The road is the last remnant of
an airstrip which formerly occupied this space.
Area T2 is also probably used for testing
tracked vehicles. Within the area are three
long possible runs probably used for testing
tanks in water, a secured area, and three ir-
regular-shaped areas, possible water pools.
This area has been built since -coverage
of the installation.
