This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center iPic (DMA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (13) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Shchuchye Ammunition Depot Chumlyak
(Figure 1) is located 3.6 kilometers (km) south-
east of Chumlyak (55-18N 062-41E) and 7.6 km
north of Shchuchye (55-12N 062-45E). The in-
stallation is served by a spur of the Trans-
Siberian railroad and a probable hard-surface,
secondary road.
The installation (Figures 2 and 3) covers
approximately 400 acres and has a probable
double fence. It contains a total of 89 build-
ings, of which there are two administrative
buildings, three barracks, 63 ammunition stor-
age buildings, 17 support buildings, and four
equipment storage/maintenance buildings.

DESCRIPTION OF INSTALLATION
A spur from the Trans-Siberian railroad
breaks into two lines serving the installation.
A possible hard-surface, all-weather road
serves the installation. Secondary roads and
trails connect the surrounding areas.
Administrative and Troop Housing Area
Area D (Figure 3) contains two admin-
istrative buildings, three barracks, and five
support buildings. Other buildings may be
hidden in adjacent wooded area.
General Storage Area
Area E is road served, has rail access,
and contains two general storage and one sup-
port building.
Ammunition Storage Area
Area F contains sixty 175- by 40-foot ammu-
nition storage buildings, three ammunition stor-
age buildings of undetermined size, and nine
support buildings. The entire area is rail served
and probably double fenced.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Area
Area J contains two 160- by 30-foot equip-
ment storage/maintenance buildings, two 90- by
25-foot equipment storage/ maintenance build-
ings, and two support buildings.
