CHIN-HSIEN AMMUNITION DEPOT LO-FENG-TUNG, CHINA
COORDS: 39-12N 121-46E
NPIC TARGET NO: 0381-10-D
COMOR NO: None
An unusual ammunition depot is located 7 nm
NNE of the center of Chin-hsien, China (Figure
1). The site is less than half a mile from a main
road and is connected to it by a good access road.
The site is not rail served, although a rail line is
located about 0.5 nm to the south. This storage
site is approximately 3.5 nm east of the Chin-
hsien Ammunition Depot Erh-shih-li-pu.
Storage Buildings. There are eight buildings
located within the secured area (Figures 2 and 3).
The four largest buildings (items 1-4) are simi-
lar in size (approximately 240 by 55 ft) and de-
sign. Each building is divided into three equal
sections by firewalls and each has six small
gable-roofed dormers for ventilation. The
northern third of the building in the NW corner
(item 1) is at a lower level than the rest of the

building leaving a break in the rooflinc, possibly
to allow ventilation for the center section. Six
symmetrically arranged double doors are visible
on the east side of each building.
Items 5 and 6 measure approximately 11.0
by 70 ft. The end walls of each building are fire-
walls; each building has numerous openings on
the visible side and each has four small gable-
roofed dormers for ventilation. Each building
has a large set of possible steps on its eastern
side suggesting that it may be built on a raised
foundation. The service entrances to these build-

ings are probably on the west side of the building,
which is served by an access road. I
Item 7 measures approximately 100 by50ft
and has no apparent ventilating devices or fire-
walls. Item 8 is approximately 40 by 35 ft and
has at least two pipe -type ventilators on the roof.
Small, approximately square buildings are lo-
cated adjacent to item 8 and between items 1 and
3, 2 and 4, and 6 and 7. There is an open stor-
age area in the space between the two pairs of
large storage buildings. The total floorspace of
the storage buildings is 74,600 sq ft.
Security. The storage site is secured by a
fence system which probably consists of three
parallel wire fences. The probable main gate
is located on the east side of the secured area
and has an associated guardhouse. There is a
second gate on the west side of the compound.
Housing and Administration. Three build-
ings located several hundred feet east of the se-
cured area and on the same access road prob-
ably constitute the housing and administration
facilities associated with the storage depot.
